Sanath Jayasuriya, a former Sri Lanka captain, has been chosen interim head coach of the island nation’s cricket team ahead of a white-ball home series against India starting later this month. Beginning July 27, the Indian squad will tour Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs. The 55-year-old Jayasuriya, a dashing opener in his peak, was designated interim coach when Englishman Chris Silverwood resigned as Sri Lanka’s coach last week. Silverwood stepped down in the aftermath of the country’s catastrophic T20 World Cup campaign, which saw them eliminated from the league stage.
According to The Daily Mirror, Jayasuriya, who has previously served as a head selector, will also lead Sri Lanka’s Test visit to England.
