Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan could contend for a position in India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2024.
With each passing match, the hunt for India’s T20 World Cup 2024 selection heats up. KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma have emerged as the top prospects for the wicket-keeper position. While Rahul appears to be a certain conclusion in the team, the second spot could be chosen by Jitesh or Ishan. Despite Ishan’s experience, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes Jitesh should be preferred over the Mumbai Indians hitter because he bats lower down the order.
When it comes to India’s T20I squad, the selectors are spoiled for options in the top order. Ishan Kishan, Yashavi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and even Virat Kohli enjoy opening in T20Is. As the batting order is shortened, so are the possibilities. As a result, Irfan believes that Jitesh is a better choice than Ishan.
“Hands down, I’ll play Jitesh.” “I’ve always said that if you have to play Ishan, whether it’s ODIs or T20Is, you have to play him at the top, and there’s a traffic jam at the top,” Pathan remarked on news sources.
“Ishan Kishan will find it difficult to establish himself.” This is my opinion. “I’m not sure what the team management thinks, but his ability, which I’ve judged for many years, I believe he needs the hard new ball and then he plays spin well,” he continued.
Jitesh, according to Irfan, is a Suryakumar Yadav-type player with a higher creative profile than Ishan.
“When you bat in the middle order, you’ll get spin in front of you, and you (Kishan) may struggle at times.” Jitesh Sharma is a somewhat inventive player. He fits the model of Suryakumar Yadav. “You’ll see him playing the lap and various types of shots,” he added.
“His progress in T20 cricket over the last year to year and a half has been phenomenal.” He has been an excellent finisher for the Punjab Kings in the IPL, and he just played two excellent innings (for India). “His strike rate is always impressive, and he bowls well with both spin and fast bowling,” Pathan added.
