After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to win the IPL for a third time, Kolkata Knight Riders ended a ten-year drought.
In the Indian Premier League 2024 finals held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to cap off one of the most dominant campaigns in the league’s history and win the title for the third time in its existence.
With the help of Shreyas Iyer, KKR ended their ten-year title drought in a fashion that will go down as one of the best in the history of the wealthiest cricket league in the world. They had previously won the championship in 2012 and 2014, both times with Gautam Gambhir as their captain.
In reference to the game, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins lost the toss and chose to bat first, which proved to be a mistake as Mitchell Starc removed Abhishek Sharma in the first over and Vaibhav Arora took the crucial wicket of Travis Head for a golden duck.
Being removed for 113 runs, the lowest total ever in the IPL finals, meant that SRH was never able to bounce back from their early defeat.
In response, Sunil Narine was out early for KKR after scoring six runs in two balls, but that was only a small setback in an easy chase for Kolkata.
