England defeated Oman handily to maintain their chances of making it to the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

England is just a point away from earning a spot in the Super 8 round of the current T20 World Cup after defeating Oman. Having only managed one point from their opening two games, England critically needed two points to stay alive. Their match against Scotland was canceled owing to inclement weather, and they had already lost to Australia. At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, the reigning champions, however, came back to defeat Oman by an overwhelming 8 wickets. Oman was routed by England, who took 3.1 overs to chase the score down after they were bowled out for 47.

The England opener provided With the opening two balls of the innings, Phil Salt struck a six, setting the chase ablaze. This made Salt the first player in international cricket history to strike sixes off the opening two balls of a team innings.

England needed to win in order to change their NRR equation in group B. England now leads Group B with a higher net run rate (+3.081) than second-placed Scotland (+2.164). Should they defeat Namibia and Scotland lose to Australia, they would advance to the Super 8.
England’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, took three wickets apiece to reduce Oman to just 47 runs in 13.2 overs after they elected to bowl first.

Archer concluded with stats of 3/12 from 3.2 overs, causing early damage with two wickets in Powerplay. Taking his 50th wicket in T20 Internationals, Wood finished with a score of 3/12. Then, with four wickets in four overs, Adil Rashid showed he was too strong for the Oman tail.

Phil Salt struck six off the first two balls and was out of the third as England quickly reached their target of 48. After Will Jacks was dismissed for five, Jos Buttler (24 not out off 8) and Jonny Bairstow (8 not out off 2) expeditiously completed the task.

Although Oman’s performance in this fourth group loss was their worst of the season, they had demonstrated enough in previous games to give them optimism for the future.
