India’s Test vice-captain KL Rahul will be waiting for the BCCI Selection Committee, led by Shiv Sundar Das, to announce the squad today. The four-member committee will select the squads for the final two Border Gavaskar Trophy Tests and the three-match ODI series. The selection meeting was supposed to take place following the Ranji Trophy Final. They will select the squad today because the Bengal vs. Saurashtra match is scheduled to end today.
3 IMPORTANT DECISIONS:
1.Should KL Rahul be released?
2.Should Sarfaraz Khan be selected?
3.Will Jasprit Bumrah be called up for the ODI series?
However, debates will rage over whether KL Rahul still deserves a spot in the Test team or whether Sarfaraz Khan should be called up. While Rahul’s form has suffered, Sarfaraz has scored over 1000 runs in three consecutive Ranji Trophy seasons.
Important points to discuss –
1.The squads for the remaining two Tests and the three-match ODI series will be chosen by selectors.
2.While the Test squad will remain intact, there will be much debate about whether or not KL Rahul should be dropped.
3.KL Rahul has averaged 15.66 in the last 12 months, and his repeated failures with 4.Shubman Gill on the bench have given the selectors a headache.
5.Shubman Gill has been in excellent form, but he has not found a position to accommodate KL Rahul.
6.Even if KL Rahul remains in the team, he will most likely be benched for Shubman in the third Test in Indore.
7.There is also a chance that the selectors will call up Mayank Agarwal or Sarfaraz Khan instead of KL Rahul.
8.KL Rahul will continue to play in the One-Day International team.
9.Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal, for example, will return.
10.However, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to play because the BCCI does not want to risk a premature return.
