Prominent Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in straight games on Tuesday to go to the men’s singles second round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 competition in Jakarta.

Sen defeated Tsuneyama 21-12 21-17 in under forty minutes during their first-round match. Sen, who qualified for the Olympics by sneaking into the semifinals of the French Open and All England Championships, will next face the victor of the match between Indonesia’s seventh-seeded Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.

Kiran George lost the men’s singles match, but not before putting up a fierce fight against Hong Yang Weng of China 21-11 10-21 20-22.

In the first round, the American duo of Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai were defeated by the Indian mixed doubles team of B Sumeeth Reddy and Sikki Reddy in a fierce match that ended 18-21, 21-16, 21-17.

A formidable challenge, however, lies ahead for the Indian duo as they advance to face the victor of the Chinese top-seeded pairing of Si Wei Zheng and Ya Qiong Huang and the Indonesian team of Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.
