A fit-again When he participates in the Diamond League Meeting on Friday, Neeraj Chopra will have the opportunity to make history once more.
The “mild” groyne strain that the 24-year-old Olympic champion javelin thrower had when capturing a historic silver medal at the World Championships in Eugene, USA, last month has healed.
Chopra is now in fourth place in the standings with seven points; a top-three result here will guarantee him a seat in the Diamond League Finals in Zurich on September 7 and 8. On June 30, he placed second in the Stockholm leg, earning his first-ever podium result.
The top six finishers qualify for the Zurich Finals. The final stage, which takes place in Lausanne, features a men’s javelin throw competition.
It would be interesting to see if Chopra maintains his impressive form this season following the one-month recovery. The eight-man field today is not too strong, thus he has a chance to become the first Indian to win a Diamond League Meeting.
