Jurgen Klopp says that he is not worried about Darwin Nunez’s recent missed chances because he is just like Robert Lewandowski, who had a similar problem at Borussia Dortmund early in his career.
Nunez, 23, has scored nine goals this season, but he also has had a lot of chances to score even more.
Klopp says Lewandowski had a bit of a mixed bag of form when he joined Dortmund from Lech Poznan in 2010.
“There are a lot of similarities to be honest,” he said.
Lewy may have a different version of the story, but I think he would say the same thing. We had shooting sessions where he didn’t finish off one of the targets. We would often have bets with each other – for 10 euros, I would pay you if you scored more than 10 times, but if you didn’t, you would have to pay me. My pocket was always full of money!
When you know you have the opportunity to do something great, you need to stay calm and focus on what you need to do.
In the recent podcast, The Red Kop, Nunez was discussed. He showed why Liverpool had paid an initial £64m to sign the striker from Benfica in the summer. He hit seven goals in 10 games before the World Cup break. You can now get Liverpool news notifications in the BBC Sport app. This means you’ll be able to find out about any new events or news that happens with the club.
Nunez has missed some good chances in the past few games because he is not playing football at home.
Klopp believes that Nunez will be able to find his scoring touch again, even though he hasn’t scored yet this season.
Everyone agrees that the potential for this project is great.
I think it was clear when we saw the big chance in the second half against Villa. He can run on an angle and then he can make a free choice.
I know it’s hard, but things will get better. The next time you have a problem, try doing things a little differently. I know it’s tough, but there are other people who have gone through the same thing as you.
We are all trying to stay calm and focus on the task at hand. Our team is doing the same, and that makes us feel confident.
