Mayank Yadav discussed the advice he received from seasoned bowler Navdeep Saini and veteran Ishant Sharma, who has played in more than 100 Tests.
Talented fast bowlers are frequently advised to sacrifice velocity for more variations, but Mayank Yadav was given sound counsel from his legendary Delhi elder, Ishant Sharma, from the start: never sacrifice speed to gain other talents. Having already delivered this IPL season’s fastest delivery (156.7 kmph) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), India’s newest pace sensation spoke with ‘Jio Cinema’ about the advice he received from Ishant, a veteran of over 100 Tests, and another senior pacer, Navdeep Saini.
“Ishant bhai and Saini bhai, two of the bowlers I spoke with in Delhi, advised me to play at my own pace even if I wanted to try something new.
“If I want to add a new skill, it should be around my speed and that I don’t need to add any skills that could compromise my speed,” Mayank added. Even if getting as many wickets as possible in a winning cause is the main goal, he always has the intention of creating pace with each ball.
“Taking wickets and making a contribution to the team is more important to me than pace. But I always have in the back of my mind that I have to bowl deliveries with some pace.”I always want to know what the fastest speed was during a match, but during the game, I’m just concerned with bowling.” Yadav has received much appreciation for his efforts thus far; his most recent one against the RCB last night saw him score 3/14.
