India and Chanu finished fourth again in Paris, narrowly missing out on a medal with a combined total of 199kg.

At the Paris Olympic Games, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu suffered yet another tragedy when she was just one kilogram away from taking home a medal. Mirabai acknowledged her displeasure with her fourth-place performance in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris Games, but she also promised to put in more effort in the future. With a combined weight of 199 kg, Chanu finished in fourth place, just missing out on a medal. After placing fourth, Chanu told the media that she wasn’t at her best and couldn’t provide a performance that matched her abilities because she was just three days into her menstrual cycle.

“I am happy with the performance because I managed this despite having very little time for recovery,” Mirabai stated to the media. “I achieved a score of 85 during both the practice and competition phases. Regarding clean and jerk as well, I was confident. I felt a little weak because it was my third day of my period, which also affects you,” she remarked.

“Whatever the coach said I did, it was going well. She continued to smile as she remarked, “It is only fate that I did not receive a medal; I gave it my all.

With a combined weight of 199 kg, India and Chanu came up just short of a medal in Paris, finishing in fourth place once again. In a video that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) released, she expressed her feelings as follows: “Today, I failed to earn a medal for my country, despite my best efforts. We all win and lose at times in this game, that’s for sure.I’ll put in more effort the next time to bring home a medal for the nation.I’m going to give it everything I’ve got in the upcoming game.”

The first was the snatch event, in which a lifter of weights had to lift the barbell above their head with a single motion.A weightlifter must first pick up the barbell and bring it to their chest (clean); next, using a straight elbow, they must stretch their arms and legs to raise the barbell above their head (jerk).

Until a buzzer sounds, the weightlifters must keep it there.

With 206 kg in total, Hou Zhihui of China won gold, Mihaela Valentina Cambei of Romania got second place with 205 kg, and Surodchana Khambao of Thailand brought home the bronze medal with 200 kg.

Three bronze medals in shooting have been won by India thus far in the Paris Olympics.
