Nathan Lyon, Australia’s senior spinner, has been named the Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year.
Mitchell Marsh, an all-rounder for Australia, was named the Allan Border Medalist at the 2024 Australian Cricket Awards on Wednesday, while Ashleigh Gardner received the Belinda Clark Award. Marsh returned to the Test format in the 2023 Ashes, scoring 118 runs per ball at Headingley. During last year’s ODI World Cup, the right-handed batter scored 441 runs at an average of 49, including a 177* against Bangladesh.
“I’m a little overweight and enjoy beer, but you always see the best in me and have changed my life. “Playing under you is a dream because of your support and leadership, Patty,” Marsh remarked during the occasion, according to news sources.
“I often told my wife that I simply wanted to give it one more shot, and it’s been fantastic. Marsh continued, “She gave me the perspective on life that I needed.”
In six Test matches, the 32-year-old amassed 594 runs at an average of 66. He scored 858 runs at a 47.66 average and 113.94 strike rate in ODIs.
In a successful T20I series versus South Africa, he also scored 92* and 79* in three innings.
Gardner, however, won her second Belinda Clark Award; the esteemed honor was first bestowed upon her in 2022.
In T20Is, Gardner took 19 wickets at an economy rate of 7.49, which includes Australia’s victory at the 2023 World Cup. Gardner had an outstanding 2023, taking 20 wickets. She recorded an average of 33.16 with the bat in ODIs and a strike rate of 118.13 with an average of 24.10 in T20Is.
It has been a fascinating year. I believe that many people mistakenly believe that I am a batter or batting all-arounder, but in the last 12 to 24 months, I believe that my bowling has improved far more quickly than I had previously realized. “I’ve trusted my captain a lot to come on at different times, so being able to enjoy the benefits of taking wickets has been a welcome change,” Gardner remarked at the occasion.
Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year went to experienced Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. He had a calf injury during the second Test at Lord’s, which kept him out of three Ashes matches.
