Every cricket fan can relate to the name Mohammad Azharuddin. The former Indian cricket captain was one of the most successful, having played 99 Tests and 334 One-Day Internationals.
However, on Tuesday in Kerala, a cricketer named Azharuddin was making history while playing in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals versus Gujarat in Ahmedabad.Mohammed Azharuddeen became the first Kerala batsman to achieve a century in the main domestic tournament’s last four match.
His unbeaten 149 helped Kerala to a huge 418 for seven before the end of the second day.This is Azharuddeen’s second first-class century. He entered the field when Kerala was struggling at 157 for four and formed a solid partnership with captain Sachin Baby and later with Salman Nizar.
Azharuddeen, the eighth child of BK Moidu and Nabeesa, was born at Thalangara, Kasaragod, in March 1994. Azharuddin was captaining the Indian team in New Zealand at the time, and his parents were considering the name Ajmal for the newborn, but their older son Kamaruddeen, a die-hard cricket fan, preferred that his younger sibling be named after his favorite batsman, Mohammad Azharuddin.
