Senior speedster Mohammed Shami is expected to return to competitive cricket after recovering from ankle surgery.
Mohammed Shami, the senior speedster, is recovering from ankle surgery and is expected to play in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, his home team, before maybe playing for his country in a Test match against New Zealand. Shami is most likely to participate in both of Bengal’s upcoming Ranji matches—the first one being played away against UP on October 11 and the second one being played in Kolkata on October 18 against Bihar. He probably won’t play both because there won’t be much more than two days between them.
Beginning in Bengaluru on October 19, the New Zealand Test series will also include matches in Pune on October 24 and Mumbai on November 1. Before starting the significant visit to Australia, Shami is anticipated to play in one of those games.
The 34-year-old Shami, one of the best fast bowlers in India, last wore the national colors on November 19, 2018, in Ahmedabad, during the ODI World Cup final against Australia.
Following an ankle operation in the UK in February of this year, Shami was declared out for at least six months and hasn’t participated in any competitive games since.
Although Shami may be seen on Instagram kicking off his RTP (Return To Play) routines at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and bowling with a low intensity reduced run-up, there have been rumors that he may be eligible for the Duleep Trophy.
But, it has come to light that there was little possibility of him recovering in time for the Duleep Trophy, and the selectors don’t want to risk anything by pushing him ahead of schedule.
The top three pacers for India, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, must be fit for the five Test matches that will take place in Australia.
In 64 Test matches, Shami has already claimed 229 wickets, including six five-wicket and twelve four-wicket hauls.
