Mohammed Shami bowled 43 overs for Bengal in their Ranji Trophy encounter against Madhya Pradesh in November. After that, he participated in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

The BCCI confirmed on Monday that Mohammed Shami will not be enrolled into the Indian cricket squad for the final two Border Gavaskar Trophy Tests. In a press release, the BCCI stated that Shami has fully healed from his heel ailment. However, his left knee swelled after participating in the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. As a result, the BCCI determined that his ‘knee required additional time for controlled exposure to bowling loads’ and hence would not be selected for the final two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which is now tied at 1-1 after the first three Tests.”The BCCI Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence has been collaborating closely with Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami on his recovery and rehabilitation following right heel surgery.” “Shami has completely recovered from his heel problem,” the BCCI stated.

In November, Shami bowled 43 overs in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. Following that, he appeared in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), where he also participated in extra bowling sessions on the sidelines to increase his bowling volume in preparation for the Test matches.”However, his left knee has swelled slightly as a result of the increased joint loading caused by his bowling effort. The swelling is expected, given the increased bowling after a long time,” according to the BCCI announcement.

“Based on his present medical status, the BCCI Medical Team has assessed that his knee needed more time for regulated exposure to bowling loads. As a result, he has been ruled out of contention for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s final two Tests.”Shami will continue to perform targeted strength and conditioning work under the supervision of the medical team at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, as well as increase his bowling loads to suit the demands of the game’s longest format. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be contingent on the progress of his knee.”
