During his time with the Chennai Super Kings, Robin Uthappa revealed MS Dhoni’s unusual eating habits.
MS Dhoni is well known for his fitness and is regarded as a great athlete even at the age of 41. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman will captain the Chennai Super Kings in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), and images of him practicing at Chepauk Stadium have gone viral on social media. Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa, who spent a lot of time with Dhoni in both the Indian and CSK dressing rooms, revealed Dhoni’s unusual food preferences as well as some hilarious stories about his teammates. In a recent interview, Uthappa stated that Dhoni used to order Butter Chicken but now only orders the sauce to maintain his fitness levels.
“We used to dine together all the time. Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, Piyush Chawla, Munaf (Patel), MS, and I were in a company. We’d order dal makhni, butter chicken, aloo jeera, gobi, and rotis. MS, on the other hand, is a very strict eater. He’d consume butter chicken without the chicken, just the gravy! He refused to consume the rotis when he ate chicken. “He is quite strange when it comes to eating,” he said on JioCinema’s ‘My Time With Heroes’ episode.
Dhoni is also known for making his team members comfortable and Uthappa recounted a similar story against the ex-India captain when he wanted to be called only “Mahi” and not “Mahi bhai”.
“During the first season, everyone in the team referred to him as Mahi bhai. I approached him and requested if I could also call him Mahi bhai. He dismissed it, stating that it didn’t matter what you called him. Please call me Mahi only,” Uthappa said on the episode dubbed ‘My Time With Dhoni’.
