Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will compete in the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 26 after recovering from a “mild” groyne strain he sustained last month.
Chopra is currently in fourth place in the standings, so a strong performance in Lausanne might guarantee him a seat in the Diamond League Finals on September 7 and 8 in Zurich. The top six finishers qualify for the Zurich Finals. The final stage, which takes place in Lausanne, features a men’s javelin throw competition.
Due to an injury he sustained during the World Championships final on July 24 in Eugene, USA, where he had earned a historic silver medal, the 24-year-old Chopra withdrew from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last month.
Just two days before the commencement of the multi-sport competition at the Birmingham CWG (July 28–August 8), he announced his withdrawal after his medical team recommended a four-week break. Then he received treatment in Germany.
