Tom Curran, an England fast bowler, received a four-match suspension for violating Cricket Australia’s code of conduct during the ongoing Big Bash League.

Tom Curran, an England fast bowler, was suspended for four matches in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) after breaking Cricket Australia’s code of conduct. The Sydney Sixers player Curran was found guilty of level-3 offense, “intimidating the on-field umpire,” as per the tournament code of conduct. On December 11, the incident occurred prior to the commencement of the Sixers’ game against the Hobart Hurricanes. Curran was attempting to finish a practice run-up when a fourth umpire prevented him from entering the field, which sparked the altercation, according to the press release.

“The umpire took position next to the stumps, blocking Curran from approaching the pitch and gestured to Curran to move away from the pitch,” the statement from the CA said.

According to the video, Curran was seen motioning for the umpire to leave the field. After that, Curran tried to rush up to the umpire, who was facing him in the bowling crease, at full speed as part of a drill. In order to minimize the chance of a collision, the umpire moved to his right.

Section 2.17 of the CA Code of Conduct assessed four Suspension Points to Curran.

2.17 talks about “Intimidation or attempted intimidation of an umpire or match referee, whether by language or conduct (including gestures) during a match,” according to Sydney Sixers.

The franchise made it plain that they intend to challenge Curran’s suspension.

“Tom and the club argue that Tom did not intentionally or knowingly intimidate a match official, and we will use our right to appeal the ruling based on legal advice. Sydney Sixers Head Coach Rachael Haynes stated, “We will be there for Tom during this time and are excited to see him back on the field.
