Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia are the opponents that India will face in the 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 round.
Even though India may have a predetermined bowling lineup, former New Zealand player Stephen Fleming believes that Kuldeep Yadav’s selection can add that “extra bit of wicket-taking flair” because the Caribbean wickets are predicted to deliver a turn in the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Three pacers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, as well as two spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, have made up India’s playing XI thus far. “I would think maybe Kuldeep would come in to provide that extra bit of wicket-taking flair if the wickets do provide the turn as they get a little bit more used and you get closer to the end of the tournament,” he stated on the “ESPNCricinfo Timeout show.”
“But they’ve still got that opportunity now to do both which is good and horses for courses, you can’t be so set in one way of playing that you miss the opportunities to take advantage of conditions.” India, the winners of Group A, have advanced to the Super 8, where they will play the first game of the second half of the competition on Thursday in Barbados against Afghanistan.
Jadeja is incredibly dangerous.
Two left-arm spin all-rounders have been used by India; Axar has been among the wickets, but Jadeja has bowled just three overs in three matches and hasn’t quite found his feet.
Fleming, an IPL coach for the Chennai Super Kings for a long time, sees no issue with fielding two players who have the same skill set.
“Mitchell Santner and Jadeja sort of do the same role for us in CSK and we sometimes find it hard around selection to get eight overs of exactly the same skill set, they are different bowlers, they bowl differently but both of them when conditions are right can be a real handful.”Since Axar can offer a new kind of attack in situations when the conditions are slightly different, like in New York, and Jadeja can be really dangerous in the correct circumstances, India may try that thanks to their all-around and batting skills.
“So, there are subtleties around them both but again, and I hate that notion of left-handers can’t bowl to left-hand batters so we can dispel that myth and both of those players can hopefully play along.” With Rishabh Pant at number three and Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma leading the innings, India was unable to accommodate the gifted Yashasvi Jaiswal in the lineup.
The former Kiwi captain discussed the lineup for India, saying: “It’s never easy to leave out guys of elite caliber, especially when they had to make some tough decisions when Jaiswal was a fantastic player. On the other hand, I think they did a good job and succeeded.
“This is a team that in some ways is picked for the finals in my view, it’s a team that has spinners that can dominate, it has players that can dominate spin and we’ve seen spin in the West Indies play quite a big part, not so much in New York.”They’ve done a great job, in my opinion, and they have a really astute point of view. This is how we want to play the important games moving forward, ideally, towards the semifinals and championship.
