In New Delhi, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and former India captain Kapil Dev played street cricket.

Former India captain Kapil Dev and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon played street cricket in New Delhi. To face New Zealand spinners Ajaz Patel and Ross Patel, who retired from international cricket in 2022, Luxon and Kapil teamed up. A video of PM Luxon and Kapil having fun playing with young children at a special event in the nation’s capital was shared on Instagram and has since gone viral on social media. PM Luxon was the star of the show, making Taylor and Ajaz laugh with his two incredible catches in the slip cordon.

In addition, PM Luxon posted some images of himself fielding in the slips as Taylor was teasing the young bowlers on his official X account, which was once Twitter.

Luxon met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week, and during their joint press conference, the two joked around.

During their Monday discussion, PM Modi was amused by his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon’s amusing remark about the Champions Trophy 2025 final.

Luxon claimed that in order to avoid a “diplomatic incident,” he purposefully avoided discussing cricket or the Champions Trophy final throughout his speech.India won the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai after defeating New Zealand in the summit match. Luxon also brought up New Zealand’s 3-0 victory in the Test series in India last year, which eliminated the team captained by Rohit Sharma from the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

“I really appreciate that PM Modi didn’t bring up New Zealand’s Champions Trophy loss to India, and I didn’t mention our Test victories in India. Let’s keep it that way and avoid a diplomatic incident,” Luxon said while PM Modi was seen laughing at the banter.

Former New Zealand cricket team hitter Ross Taylor was also in attendance and even he was left entertained by the banter between the two world leaders during the ceremony.Additionally, Luxon commended the Indian cricket team for their recent dominating performance.

“The men in blue, the Indian cricket team, have been the most dominant team under PM Modi’s leadership. They most recently defeated my men in black, the New Zealand cricket team, in Dubai to win the Champions Trophy. In the process, they crushed the hearts of countless New Zealanders, including me. Luxon said, “I’ll be the mature one and just say congrats,” according to PTI.
