The first Major Cricket League finished on Sunday with MI New York winning the championship by defeating Seattle Orcas in the championship match.
On Sunday (Monday IST), the Major Cricket League’s maiden season came to an end with MI New York defeating Seattle Orcas in Dallas to claim the championship. As it gained another trophy to its trophy cabinet, the brand MI continued to showcase its faultless cricketing abilities. When given the opportunity to bat first, the Orcas amassed a respectable score of 183/9 in 20 overs, with Quinton de Kock collecting 87 runs. But in the second innings, MI New York’s captain Nicholas Pooran hammered a massive score of 137 runs off just 55 balls, leading his team to a seven-wicket triumph.
13 sixes and 10 boundaries were thrown in to Pooran’s tremendous hit. In the 16th over of MI’s chase, the West Indies wicketkeeper destroyed Harmeet Singh for 24 runs, making it one of the most memorable plays in the game. An magnificent hat-trick of sixes and a boundary were both part of that over.
It should be noted that during the pursuit, MI was down one and had scored 0 runs. But the captain took matters into his own hands and played a gutsy inning to lead his team to the first championship.
In terms of the game, except from de Kock, no other Seattle Orcas batter went over the 30-run threshold. With their individual three-wicket hauls, Trent Boult and Rashid Khan destroyed the backbone of Orcas’ batting line-up. Aside from them, Steven Taylor and David Wiese each took one wicket.
Later, MI New York lost two wickets early in the innings, with openers Steven Taylor and Shayan Jahangir departing for 0 and 10 runs, respectively. Pooran, on the other hand, stayed strong and scored 137 runs off 55 balls. Dewald Brevis and Tim David scored 20 and 10 runs, respectively, in addition to him.
