After a gruelling battle with Tam of Vietnam, Nikhat Zareen becomes the second Indian after Mary Kom to hold multiple World titles
Many thought Nikhat Zareen’s hardest fight was her semi-final against Colombian Ingrit Valencia. Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam, on the other hand, hadn’t read the script and charged at the Indian boxer in the 50kg title battle on Sunday. Nikhat’s picture hangs in the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, and she has been one of the tournament’s notable faces. However, the pressure of the semifinal didn’t make the championship any easier.
Nguyen fought tooth and nail for the Indian to win the gold title at the World Championship, but she was unsuccessful. At the conclusion of their game, the speaker yelled, “And still,” reiterating the local favourite’s victory.
