India will have a new captain for the T20I series against Zimbabwe while the seniors are taking a break.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is selecting the Indian side for the five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) that they will be playing in Zimbabwe, even though the entire cricket world is focused on the T20 World Cup 2024. The competition is set to start on July 6th, and while veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will be rested, the younger generation of Indian cricket players is anticipated to visit the nation. According to reports, even players like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav turned down the team’s invitation to visit Zimbabwe.
According to a source in the Indian Express, Shubman Gill would probably be named the Indian team’s captain for the Zimbabwe series since Rohit, Hardik, and Surya are not available. Stars from the Indian Premier League, including Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tushar Deshpande, and Harshit Rana, are anticipated to be in the team.
They will also feature players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rinku Singh, who are currently touring the USA and the West Indies with the Indian team in preparation for the T20 World Cup.
Alongside bowler Avesh Khan, Shubman Gill also traveled to the USA with the Indian team as a reserve player before being returned home.
VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, and a few other instructors are anticipated to travel to Zimbabwe with the team, as the excitement surrounding Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s new head coach continues.
The team is anticipated to go to Sri Lanka starting on July 27 with the arrival of the next Indian coach, most likely Gambhir.
