However, after missing out on a recall, the 37-year-old has opted to end his career as an international player.
With an outstanding white-ball career that saw him score three centuries and nineteen half-centuries for his nation, the left-hander played more than 100 matches for the New Zealanders. His lone Test outing came against South Africa in 2013.
Only seven male players have ever scored three or more T20I hundreds, including Munro, who scored all three of his hundreds in the game’s shortest version.
The former opener played for New Zealand in the T20 World Cups in 2014 and 2016, and he was an important part of the team that advanced to the exciting 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final match against England.
With immediate effect, the southpaw has announced his retirement from international cricket, but he will still play for franchise teams throughout the world.
As he considered his career, Munro stated that playing for New Zealand was unquestionably the high point.
The pinnacle of my playing career has always been becoming a member of the Black Caps. I will always be very happy of having been able to don the shirt 123 times in all formats; there was never a moment I felt more proud than that,” Munro stated, as cited by ICC.
“Even though it has been a long since I played for my team, I never lost faith that I could be able to make a comeback based on my franchise T20 form. Now is the ideal moment to formally seal that chapter with the Black Caps squad announcement for the T20 World Cup, the former left-hander continued.
