The ICC ODI World Cup is slowly approaching, thus Gill’s strike for India comes at a good time.
India defeated West Indies on Saturday at Lauderhill, Florida, to tie the five-game Twenty20 series. Shubman Gill (77) and Yashaswi Jaiswal (84), who put up a 165-run stand to help India win the fourth game of the series and set up an exciting final, were the players responsible for the victory.
The ICC ODI World Cup is slowly approaching, thus Gill’s strike for India comes at a good time. In the first three T20Is, Gill had trouble at bat and was eventually out for scores of 3, 7, and 6.
In a conversation with Arshdeep Singh on BCCI.tv after the game, Gill discussed his innings and remarked, “In the first three matches, I couldn’t score ten runs. But I wanted to take advantage of this nice wicket since it appeared to be one. The idea was to play well for the next 4-5 powerplay overs once I got off to a strong start in order to win the game immediately, and that’s exactly what happened.
The right-handed batsman replied that it was a matter of determining if the fundamentals were being followed or errors were being made in response to Arshdeep’s question on how he looks to recover from a couple of dismal games.
“You must determine if you are making errors and not doing the fundamentals correctly. The T20 format is like that, and I felt as though I didn’t make a mistake in those three games or fail to convert starts. You don’t have much time to consider when you play three to four games when a nice shot gets caught by the fielder and you have to focus on making quick runs. You only need to recall your model from when you were regularly scoring runs, said Gill.
