On March 1, the BCCI held a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai to select a new joint secretary.
The joint secretary position was left open after Devjit Saikia was promoted to the position of board secretary, thus the BCCI called a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on March 1 to select a new candidate. Following Jay Shah’s appointment as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman on December 1, Saikia of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) took over as secretary last month. The state associations received the SGM notice from the BCCI, which included a single agenda item.
In order to conduct the business of election and induction of the Joint Secretary of the BCCI, notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (henceforth referred to as SGM) of the BCCI to be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai,” the apex board stated in a statement.
For the position, the names of former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), Rohan Jaitley (North Zone) of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), and Sanjay Naik (West Zone) of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) are circulating.To choose the new joint secretary of the board, no election will be held, as was the case with the BCCI secretary and treasurer.
In order to call an SGM, the BCCI has complied with the standard 21-day notification period.
The last SGM, which took place on January 12 and saw the election of Saikia as the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new treasurer, will be the second in less than two months. Both won without any opposition.
