Danushka Gunathilaka receives some relief from a Sydney court, and a curfew for a Sri Lankan player facing rape charges is lifted.
Danushka Gunathilaka, a Sri Lankan international cricketer, has been allowed to use WhatsApp and to go out at night after his bail for rape charges was modified. In November of last year, the cricketer was accused of sexual assault in Sydney.
The cricketer, 31, is charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent. He is accused of assaulting a 29-year-old woman after they met on the dating app Tinder. Both of them went to her home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for a date. The woman claimed that the cricketer choked her three times after she refused to wear a condom.
Gunathilaka has granted bail by a magistrate in November 2022. However, because he was facing criminal charges, the cricketer is prohibited from using Tinder and other social media platforms.
