The charges are made in response to Pakistan’s elimination from the 2024 T20 World Cup group stage.
Azhar Mahmood, assistant coach of the Pakistan men’s team, has stated that people making false charges and narratives about his family “will be dealt with through legal action.” Pakistan’s disastrous T20 World Cup campaign concluded on a tragic note. The Babar Azam-led team failed to advance beyond the group stage. Mahmood remarked that he is shocked to hear such false and unsubstantiated statements. “I’ve heard some bogus charges and narratives being spread on social media and other media outlets. I definitely state that these charges are completely false, and hearing them is incredibly disturbing.” Mahmood wrote on X.
“This culture of falsely accusing and misleading people to believe a false narrative is now getting ridiculous and dangerous. Speaking without evidence and misconstruing facts is a criminal offence, and those engaging in such behaviour will be dealt with through legal action,” he wrote.
“Spreading falsehoods to gain followers and media attention is just wrong. I will seek legal counsel against people who made these false charges against me and my family, and appropriate action will be taken. We shall not debate this further on social media. I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or indulging these damaging narratives, as it is critical to put an end to such behavior in our media culture,” he said.
Earlier, Geo News reported, citing sources, that skipper Babar Azam was also planning legal action against YouTubers and former cricketers who accused him of’misconduct’ during their T20 World Cup campaign.
According to sources, during Pakistan’s campaign, a social media campaign was utilized to “target” Babar, leaving him “disheartened.”
According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal department is gathering evidence linked to claims made by YouTubers and former cricketers.
