Shoaib Bashir, making his debut against India, took three wickets in the second Test currently underway in Visakhapatnam.
Former England cricketer Michael Atherton praised debutant spinner Shoaib Bashir for his showing in Visakhapatnam on the opening day of the India-England series, stating that he appeared “completely nerveless” and shown the temperament needed for the longer format. In the second Test, India and England are facing off in Visakhapatnam. In addition to taking out all-rounder Axar Patel, Bashir’s day was remarkable since he secured the coveted wicket of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He had taken ten wickets in just six first-class matches prior to this.
Pitch did not do much for Shoaib, but the English legend claimed that he appeared “nerveless”. He also shared his thoughts on what qualities a good spinner should possess.

I believe he appeared utterly unnerved to bowl for 28 overs like he did today.” Throughout, his bowling was accurate. According to Sky Sports, Atherton stated, “And there’s not really much in the pitch for him or anybody else, to be honest.
Because of his height and the overspin he receives on the ball, he receives a good deal of bounce. Getting Rohit Sharma out was undoubtedly his defining achievement.”
With India’s batting lineup being somewhat inexperienced, this is a huge wicket for them. It couldn’t have gone much better for Shoaib, who got him early on, took a late wicket, and then took a catch.
“Most importantly of all, he showed he has got the temperament for the occasion today; a terrific day for him,” he said.
Entering the game, India finished the first day of play at 336/6, with Ravichandran Ashwin (5*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (unbeaten at 179 in 257 balls) sharing 17 fours and five sixes between them. The left-hander received some good support from Shubman Gill (34 in 46 balls, with five fours), Shryas Iyer (27 in 59 balls, with three fours), debutant Rajat Patidar (32) and Axar Patel (27).
With their spin bowling, debutants Shoaib Bashir (2/100) and Rehan Ahmed (2/61) controlled the first day and prevented Indian hitters from capitalizing on their strong beginnings.
