In preparation for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in 2024–25, Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has taken an eight-week vacation from cricket. Notably, Australia will play host to India for five Test matches starting on November 22—a first for the country since 1992.
In order to rejuvenate himself before the intense home schedule against Pakistan and India, Cummins has chosen to take a solid two-month vacation before the series. He won’t be playing in the forthcoming white ball series between England and Scotland as a result. The Australian captain recently discussed his leave of absence and the demanding cricket schedule he has been a part of since June 2023.”You never regret taking a break; everyone returns a little bit refreshed. Since the World Test Championship final, which was almost eighteen months ago, I have essentially been bowling nonstop. This allows my body to recuperate for a solid seven or eight weeks without bowling, after which you resume building for the summer. It should allow you to bowl for a little bit longer, keep up your speed a little bit easier, and be less prone to injury, according to a Fox Sports remark from Cummins. With appearances in the World Test Championship final, The Ashes, the ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, and the T20 World Cup 2024, Cummins has notably not spent much time off the field since June 2023. Therefore, it’s imperative that the Australian pace spearhead get some much-needed rest before the crucial series.

“It’s the trophy I haven’t won yet, and it’s the one that many people in our group aren’t mad about.” In the past few years, the Test group has accomplished some incredible things. You almost give yourself a chance to win every series at home. You should strive to be among the top teams, in my opinion. We have that in store for us this summer. They have a great side. We feel like we’re pretty well placed as well, but we also play them a lot and know them extremely well,” he continued. The thirty-one-year-old is keen to win the coveted BGT, which India has held since 2017.
It’s the trophy I haven’t taken home since Australia’s defeats to India in the previous two Test series, which were played at home in 2018–19 and 2020–21, respectively. Because of this, both teams are looking forward to the forthcoming series, which will reignite one of the greatest rivalries in contemporary Test cricket history.
