Australia’s two Test matches against Sri Lanka are set for January 29 and February 6.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins has suggested that he may miss the tour of Sri Lanka later this month to attend the birth of his second child. Australia is slated to play two Tests in Sri Lanka on January 29 and February 6, which coincides with the due date of his wife, Becky. “It’s hard to plan the exact day, but definitely (I might miss the Sri Lanka tour),” Cummins told ‘The Daily Telegraph’ at the outset of the Pink Test, which begins here on Friday. In Cummins’ absence, Australia will be led by either Steve Smith or Travis Head.Cummins acknowledged that his mother’s death last year had a significant impact on changing his priorities. The pacer had returned to India halfway through his tour to be with his mother when she died.
“In some ways, it actually focuses you on what I believe is vital. It’s family, it’s fun, it’s trying to find joy in life, and I think that’s changed the way I approach music and touring, and it’s given me a genuine decluttering mindset.”You just want to play well when you go out, and of course, there will be pressure, but you don’t want to forget what your parents used to tell you ‘Go and enjoy it’ whenever we went out to play as children. Give it your all, but remember to have fun. I make it a point to remind myself of that whenever I play or go on tour. “There is always an opportunity cost to whatever you decide to do,” Cummins thought.”You just want to play well when you go out, and of course, there will be pressure, but you don’t want to forget what your parents used to tell you ‘Go and enjoy it’ whenever we went out to play as children. Over the past few years, that has truly resonated. Your family time and moments are lost when you go on tour. If it makes sense, you must make sure you’re getting the most out of that game or tour because that’s a conscious decision.” Due to his World Cup commitment, Cummins has previously acknowledged that he regrets missing the first few weeks of his son Albie’s life. “I missed a big chunk (of Albie’s early days) last time and I want to work out how we can spend a bit more time at home for that initial period this time,” he’d stated.
