Pat Cummins is likely to miss the fourth Test and one-day internationals as Australia’s captain attends to his mother, who is in palliative care following a cancer battle.
Pat Cummins, Australia’s captain, is unlikely to return after returning home to care for his ailing mother, Maria Cummins. Cummins’ mother is currently in healthcare after a long battle with cancer. Cummins, who led Australia in the first two Tests, was supposed to return for the fourth, but he is now likely to miss the entire tour. His mother was one of the reasons he skipped IPL 2023. In his absence, Steve Smith will be in charge.
According to the report, Cricket Australia offered Pat Cummins the option of returning home or remaining with the team following thrashings in the first two Tests. Cummins, however, decided to return home after speaking with his teammates. He was supposed to return for the third Test. He chose to stay at home because his mother is battling breast cancer.
“That’s just being nice in general. In any workforce or business, family comes first, so you must be able to go home if something goes wrong. Cricket will always be there,” Peter Handscomb said ahead of the third Test in Indore.
