Phil Salt hit a century off 53 balls as England defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first Twenty20 international on Saturday.
In the 1st T20I on Saturday, England defeated the West Indies by eight wickets after a record-breaking run chase led by Phil Salt, who blasted to a century from 53 balls. With 19 balls remaining, England overcame the West Indies’ 182-9 total, with Salt finishing at 103 not out. With 23 sixes in a match of spectacular ball-striking, England surpassed the previous best successful T20 run chase of 172 at the Kensington Oval.
In addition to nine fours, Salt hit six of those sixes. All three of his T20 international hundreds have come against the West Indies in the Caribbean. The 28-year-old has earlier made 109 not out in 2023 encounters against the West Indies at St Georges and 119 at Tarouba.
Jacob Bethell, who hit five fours and two sixes in his 58 not out from 36 balls on Sunday, provided him with support.
“I believe that the Caribbean is where I’m happiest,” Salt remarked. It’s fun for me to bat here. I was raised on these surfaces.
