The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that opening batsman Phil Salt will serve as captain for the T20i series. Jos Buttler is also doubtful for England’s five-match ODI series against Australia, which is slated to take place from September 19 to September 29. England has not played white-ball cricket since their heartbreaking semi-final loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite poor performances in the ODI and T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2024, Jos Buttler was backed by the selection and management to keep his position. However, his return to play has been postponed due to the recurrence of the ailment. The England captain has not played competitive cricket since the T20 World Cup semi-finals on June 27.
