Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is expected to take Ashish Shelar’s place as treasurer, while Devajit Saikia submits a bid for BCCI Secretary.
Since Jay Shah moved to the International Cricket Council (ICC) as its chair in December of last year, the position of secretary has been unfilled. Devajit Saikia, the current joint-secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has submitted his nomination.
As previously reported by news sources, Ashish Shelar, the only candidate for the treasurer post, will be replaced by Prabhtej Singh Bhatia of Chhattisgarh. On January 12, at the BCCI’s Special General Meeting in Mumbai, Saikia and Bhatia are expected to be elected without opposition.
But since Saikia would be taking over as secretary, the Board will need to choose a new joint secretary to take his place.
Bhatia and Saikia are permitted to stay in the office through September. They will, nevertheless, be qualified to run for reelection for a second term. At the SGM, Arun Dhumal and Dhanraj Nathwani will represent the Gujarat Cricket Association and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, respectively.
At first, there were rumors that Anil Patel, the GCA secretary and a well-known figure in cricket administration, might be given consideration for one of the roles. But the rumors are finally over because, according to the election officer AK Jyoti’s draft electoral poll, Nathwani’s name appears as the GCA representative in the SGM.
Snehasish Ganguly was proposed as the Cricket Association of Bengal’s delegate after the deadline, however the association did not have any representatives on the draft electoral list.
