According to an official, swimming sensation Pratyasa Ray has been chosen for the esteemed Ekalabya Puraskar in 2024. In February of this year, Ray won six medals from the Khelo India University Games in Guwahati, including four gold, one silver, and one bronze. At a meeting in Bhubaneswar, the jury members of the Ekalabya Puraskar committee, who were recruited from a variety of sectors, unanimously chose Ray to receive the esteemed award. At a ceremony to be held later, Ray will get a citation and a financial prize of Rs 7 lakh, an increase from the previous Rs 5 lakh.
Award recipients for their outstanding accomplishments in a variety of national and international competitions in their respective sports will include badminton player Tanvi Patri and sprinter Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram.
There will be citations during the award ceremony for each of the citation winners, as well as a monetary prize of Rs 1.5 lakh instead of Rs 1 lakh.
Establishment of Ekalabya Puraskar dates back to 1993, when the nation’s top ferro alloys manufacturer, IMFA, took over management of the program. These days, it’s regarded as Odisha’s most important sporting honor.
