Adam Gilchrist has named his World Cup semi-finalists ahead of Australia’s one-day international series against India. Rishabh Pant was also praised.
Rishabh Pant’s contribution to Indian cricket has impressed renowned Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist, who believes the youthful gloveman has inspired many wicket-keeper batters around the world. Pant, who is still recovering from his injury, will miss the entire ICC World Cup. Last year, the energetic young batter was involved in a catastrophic car accident and suffered multiple injuries.
Pant has been active on social media while undergoing rehabilitation in Bengaluru following the fatal vehicle accident. Pant was unable to play in the entire 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, or the recently finished Asia Cup. The injured wicketkeeper-batter, on the other hand, is likely to return to competitive cricket next year.
‘Pant has inspired a lot of wicket-keeper batsmen.’
“I believe Rishabh has inspired many wicket-keeper batters all over the world to play the way he does.” “It’s fascinating for such a young man to have such an impact, and others are responding and playing in that positive manner,” Gilchrist told news sources.
The former Baggy Greens wicketkeeper-batter also praised Ishan Kishan, who sealed his spot on the Indian squad after a brilliant Asia Cup 2023 performance. India’s wicketkeeping options for Rohit’s men at the ICC World Cup are Kishan and the versatile KL Rahul. Kishan scored 82 against Pakistan, while Rahul repaid selectors’ faith with a scorching century in the Asia Cup’s Super 4 stage.
Gilchrist on Kishan vs Rahul
India has plenty of supplies. They have a few choices. “When KL was out with his injury, Ishan Kishan obviously seized the moment and played outstandingly; now that they are on the same team, that is a wonderful example of seizing the moment,” Gilchrist remarked.
“Being positive and then and forcing the selectors into keeping you in the team so it seems like KL is gonna be the one who is going to continue with the gloves but it does not seem to hinder Ishan Kishan’s batting, he seems to be playing really well, carefree, attacking, and dangerous,” he continued.
‘India, Pakistan could feature in semis’
Rahul, who has been added to the Indian team as a wicketkeeper-batter, will also captain the team without Rohit in the forthcoming ODI series against Australia. For a three-match series leading up to the World Cup, India will host Australia. Gilchrist, who three times won the prestigious trophy with Australia, also unveiled his four semi-finalists for the major competition in India. Gilchrist claimed that two more teams, Australia and England, may join India and Pakistan in the semifinals.
