In order to be played at ICC global events, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a brand-new anthem and musical composition by Grammy Award winner Lorne Balfe.

This new sonic brand will be the ICC’s official anthem, playing at all matches and capturing the dynamic essence of the sport across its many formats: test, ODI, and T20I. This music is by Balfe, a well-known composer in the film and television industries. His most recent works are Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, Life on Our Planet (narrated by Morgan Freeman), Black Adam, Luther: The Fallen Sun, Top Gun: Maverick, and Black Widow.

The new anthem will be played in the opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup between the United States and Canada in Dallas, Texas on June 1, 2024.

The score was composed at the prestigious Abbey Road Recording Studios in London using a range of orchestral instruments, cricket equipment, and in-game sounds. It creates an exuberant and breathtaking soundscape that is evocative of the build-up to a match, the victory at the end of a match, and the celebration at the final trophy lift.

It honors the diverse fabric of cricket culture and gives fans of the game a visceral experience on all of the platforms used for ICC events.

Leading this historic endeavor made Balfe happy, as he described the anthem as an effort to capture the essence of the game.

“Working with the ICC and writing the new anthem has been an amazing experience. It’s a hymn of unity, and the intention was to capture the essence of each boundary that was crossed and wicket that was made in this amazing, ageless game,” the man stated.

The official aural experience that could match the intensity of the sport on the field impressed Chris Tetley, the ICC Head of Events.

We are thrilled to present this unique endeavor to the global community. The process of creating this new sound identity for the brand has taken a long time, and the final outcome is just as complex as the music piece.

We’re happy to have a logo that complements the visual work that is done on and off the field in terms of sound.

The significance of World Cup events and the distinctive nature of nation-versus-nation competition in our sport will be expressed through the music. Our goal is for it to become the most talked about cricket anytime it is mentioned, taking listeners on the roller coaster of emotions that the game is famous for—highs, lows, suspense, and victory.

As the project leader, COOL Music Ltd., has brought the love of music and cricket together, it has been a pleasure to work with them.
