According to a friend of Prthivi Shaw, the fight started in the early hours of Wednesday at a luxury hotel in Mumbai’s Oshiwara after two fans – a man and a woman – approached the cricketer for selfies.
According to a police complaint, an argument over selfies quickly escalated into a fight with a baseball bat and a car chase in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw.
In the police case, eight people are accused of charging at Mr Shaw and his friend, breaking the windscreen of their car, and demanding $50,000.
Those named in the complaint, Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill, have denied the allegations and accused the 23-year-old cricketer of assaulting them first.
According to Mr Shaw’s friend’s complaint, the fight started in the early hours of Wednesday at a luxury hotel near the Mumbai airport after two fans – a man and a woman – approached the cricketer for selfies.
When they refused to back down and demanded more photos, Mr Shaw called a friend and the hotel manager to have the fans removed.
After being ejected, the fans waited outside for Prithvi and mobbed Mr Shaw with baseball bats, according to the complaint.
