In an untold story from his 100th Test, Ravichandran Ashwin said he wanted MS Dhoni to be there.

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, one of the best cricketers of his generation, Ravichandran Ashwin, hung his boots from the international stage. Ashwin retired as an India international with 106 Test caps, but it wasn’t the original plan. The veteran spin-bowling all-rounder has acknowledged that he wanted to retire after playing the 100th Test, which he did against England in Dharamsala, but he slightly delayed the plan. Ashwin even asked his former captain, MS Dhoni, to be present during the 100th Test, but that didn’t work out.

Ashwin received a souvenir as part of a special ceremony held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to commemorate his 100th Test. Dhoni was unable to attend, but Ashwin insisted on receiving the souvenir from his hands.

During an event in Chennai, Ashwin revealed that though he didn’t get the desired present from Dhoni on his 100th Test, he got an even better one when the former India captain got Chennai Super Kings to sign him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction.”I called MS Dhoni for my 100th Test in Dharamshala to hand over the memento. I wanted to make that my last Test. But he couldn’t make it. However, I didn’t think he would give me the gift of getting me back to CSK. It’s a much better one. So, thank you, MS, for doing it. I’m glad to be here,” said Ashwin at a Chennai book launch Sunday.

After leaving the five-time champions following the 2015 season, Ashwin, who began his IPL career with CSK in 2008, made his maiden appearance back. Ashwin has played for several teams in the past ten years, such as the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Punjab Kings.

The most significant thing is that I have returned to CSK not as a person who has accomplished much but rather as someone who has completed the full circle and wishes to return and enjoy myself again. He went on, “It’s a great place to be.”
