Having already created history in the first Test match against Bangladesh, R Ashwin is on the verge of breaking multiple records.
In the opening Test of the series, India defeated Bangladesh by a commanding 280 runs thanks to the bat and bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin. The 38-year-old tied the legendary Shane Warne for the second-most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket history after hitting his sixth century with the bat (113). He also claimed six wickets with the ball in the second innings. Before the second Test in Kanpur, Ashwin is in danger of breaking six records. Let us examine the complete list.
1.The 1st Indian to reach 100 wickets in the fourth innings of a Test match
In the fourth Test innings, Ashwin is already the most successful Indian wicket-taker. But if he takes one more wicket in the fourth innings, he’ll become the first bowler from India and the sixth bowler overall to take 100 wickets in the last innings.
2.Top wicket-taker in the Test match between Bangladesh and India
To surpass Zaheer Khan’s 31 wickets and become the bowler with the most wickets in Test matches between Bangladesh and India, Ashwin simply needs three more wickets.
3.Top wicket-taker for the 2023–25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle
Ashwin would surpass Josh Hazlewood as the top wicket-taker in the current WTC cycle with four more wickets, bringing his total to 52.
4.The history of Test cricket’s second-most fifers
Ashwin is now tied with Australian legend Shane Warne for the second-most five-wicket hauls in Test history with 37. With one more fifer, Ashwin would be the clear second.
5.Top wicket-taker in the history of WTC
To surpass Australian spinner Nathan Lyon and become the top wicket-taker in World Test Championship history, Ashwin needs to capture eight more wickets. Ashwin is now in second place with 180, while Lyon is currently on 187.
6.The seventh-best wicket-taker in Test cricket history.
Ashwin (522) would pass Lyon (530) for eighth place on the all-time Test wicket-taking list with nine more wickets.
India and Bangladesh will play their second Test on Friday, September 27.
