After New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, Rachin Ravindra struck 112 as his team swept into the semi-finals, bringing India with them.

Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand hailed his support crew and well-wishers on Monday for their care following a freak on-field injury, as he returned to action with a match-winning century, securing his side’s place in the Champions Trophy semifinals. Ravindra scored 112 as New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals, bringing India along with them, following their victory over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. As a result, Bangladesh and hosts Pakistan were both eliminated from contention for a spot in the semi-finals of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 50-over event.

With 23 balls and five wickets remaining, Ravindra’s fourth ODI century on his Champions Trophy debut completed New Zealand’s pursuit of 237.

In a recent tri-series match against the same opponents, the left-hander was struck by the ball on his forehead while fielding, which caused him to miss New Zealand’s opening triumph over Pakistan.

“Yeah, definitely a freak accident,” on Monday, Ravindra said to reporters. “I think things like that don’t really happen too often.”

He stated: “I’m very grateful to have a great support crew around me in terms of Black Caps set up, coaches and doc and physio that have been able to come out of it reasonably well and I’m extremely grateful for the love and support of everyone.”
