When asked if he would play in the upcoming Ranji match, Rohit responded, “I will,” during the press conference for the Champions Trophy squad announcement. Mumbai, Rohit’s home team, hosts Jammu & Kashmir at the BKC Ground.
After managing just one double-digit score in five innings earlier in the tour, Rohit was in bad form and missed the last of the five Test matches in Australia. Rohit had only managed one half-century in his five home Test matches prior to that, against New Zealand in Bengaluru, with four double-digit scores in ten innings. His 15-inning average this season is a pitiful 10.93.
At the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit had just practiced with the Mumbai Ranji team. The last time he participated in the Ranji Trophy was in 2015–16, when he struck 113 from No. 4 in a draw with Uttar Pradesh.
The BCCI medical department has been informed by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul that they are suffering from niggles that will prevent them from participating in the next Ranji Trophy games starting on January 23.
