After Faf Du Plessis was discharged prior to last year’s massive auction, Rajat Patidar assumed the role of captain for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.
Rajat Patidar, the recently named captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasized the value of “standing with players” in all situations and stated on Wednesday that he would like to learn the subtleties of leadership from icon Virat Kohli. Faf Du Plessis, who was released prior to last year’s massive auction, has been replaced as RCB captain by Patidar. “Although I don’t express myself much, I understand the circumstances around the matches. Therefore, I believe it’s critical to support my players, be there for them in every circumstance, and create an atmosphere that makes them feel at ease and secure,” Patidar stated during a news conference held here.
According to Patidar, the seasoned players in the RCB locker room can help him handle the demanding role of IPL captain.
“We have a group of leaders whose ideas and expertise will undoubtedly benefit me in my new leadership role and help me develop personally. Additionally, it’s a fantastic chance for me to learn from one of cricket’s greatest players, Kohli.
“I’m confident that his insights and background will support me in my leadership position. I’ve done a lot of (batting) partnerships with him. I know him very well. We’re looking forward to that partnership with the bat as well,” he said.In addition, Patidar mentioned that he participated in the discussions that surrounded the RCB captaincy ahead of the upcoming season.
However, the 31-year-old stated that before taking on the more demanding role with the RCB, he wanted to experience captaincy with his state team, Madhya Pradesh.
Although Patidar captained MP in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year, a significant portion of those competitions took place following the auction.”I believe that Mo (Bobat, the RCB’s Director of Cricket) and I discussed it (captaincy) last year. Are you interested in taking on the role of captain? Mo inquired. I informed him that I would prefer to captain the state team before taking on the role of RCB captain.
“So, I saw that as a clue that I might win the captaincy. I was therefore overjoyed to learn that either Virat or I could assume the role of captain,” he continued.
Did Kohli, their previous captain, get the first choice, or did the RCB always have Patidar in mind as their new leader? Andy Flower, the head coach of RCB, described the pre-auction situation.”In fact, I felt that Virat’s ethics and maturity as a man were of the greatest caliber throughout our (captaincy) conversations.
“His excitement and eagerness to play in the IPL with RCB was one of the things that really stuck out.
“It’s clear that he respects and likes Rajat as a player and a person. That bond will be crucial, in my opinion.
“My experience with him last season and the way he supported Faf when we were struggling in the first half of the season, and it only made my respect for him grow. I’d say the same thing about our discussions over the captaincy of RCB,” said Flower. Therefore, did RCB take into account any other players that were up for grabs during the auction for their captaincy role, such as KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer? “Those guys are all clearly outstanding leaders and players. They have captained or are currently captaining in other places. However, we wanted to put more effort into building the ideal team than only looking for someone who could take on a leadership role.
For us, it was just a matter of having faith in our internal options. We would be extremely pleased to have both Rajat and Virat as possibilities if we didn’t hire someone from outside,” Flower stated.
According to the Zimbabwean, the Royal Challengers were pleased with how the auction went.”We were pleased with the men we brought in and many of our other targets. Therefore, purchasing well-known brands was never a major factor in our decision-making process,” he continued.
