During the KKR vs. RCB IPL 2025 opener, a fan went onto the field to greet Virat Kohli, resulting in a security violation.
During Saturday’s IPL 2025 opening match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, there was a security breach. To greet RCB legend Virat Kohli, a fan scaled the stadium’s fence and dashed onto the pitch. The star batter’s accomplishment caused the pitch invader to fall. But the fan’s behavior got him into problems when the Kolkata police apprehended him on suspicion of a security breach.
Rajeev Shukla, vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), responded to the event. Shukla recognized Kohli’s fan base on X and posted a message stating
Amazing fan following of @imVkohli https://t.co/L4GUkdJgRq

However, Shukla was criticised for glorifying the incident with fans raising concerns over the safety of the player.
As the Vice President of the BCCI, it is crucial not to encourage security breaches by fans in the name of ‘fan following.’ If, God forbid, anything happens to a player, who will take responsibility? Please strengthen the security arrangements.
