Rashid Khan has been named Afghanistan T20I captain, succeeding Mohammad Nabi, who stepped down following Afghanistan’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Rashid was proposed for the position by Afghanistan cricket board chairman Mirwais Ashraf, who had previously led the country in seven T20Is in 2019. Rashid also led Afghanistan in seven One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Tests in 2018-19.
Rashid’s previous captaincy tenure saw Afghanistan win four of seven matches, including two victories over the West Indies in Lucknow. Rashid’s next captaincy stint will begin in February 2023, when Afghanistan visits the UAE for three Twenty20 Internationals.
