Shastri made the management aware of a missing link in the batting order prior to the WI tour, drawing analogies to the 2011 World Cup squad.
There are only a few months till the mega event, the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be staged in India. Team India has only two ODIs left: the West Indies series, which begins next month, and the Asia Cup in September, which is their final preparation for the competition. Before the West Indies tour, in which Team India would play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), previous head coach Ravi Shastri made the current management aware of a missing link in the batting order by drawing a comparison with the 2011 World Cup squad.
Shastri was questioned during an interview if the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have been confirmed for the World Cup. Much will be decided closer to the tournament, according to the seasoned all-rounder.
Ravi Shastri, emphasising the importance of left-handers in the batting order, stated, No, that will be a struggle. You’ll have to wait till closer to the event to view it. Form becomes vital once more. You must strike the proper balance. Do you believe a lefty will make a difference at the top? It does not have to be first, but it should be in the top three or four. You must weigh all of your possibilities. I’d like to see two left-handed pitchers in the top six.”
