The allure of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is that players from low-income families can suddenly become billionaires when wealthy owners spend money to select the best player for their squad. The IPL 2025 auction, which saw the highest amount ever spent in any auction—INR 639.15 crore—was essentially the same. Some players ultimately received enormous pay increases; wicket-keeper batsman Jitesh Sharma saw a 5,400% increase in pay.

In the IPL 2022 mega auction, Jitesh was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 20 lakh. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) eventually paid an incredible Rs 11 crore for him. Jitesh will thus receive a 5,400% pay increase over his prior IPL salary, which is the largest turnover in IPL auction history.

Jitesh had sold to RCB for Rs 7 crore at first, but after PBKS invoked the RTM option for him, his price tag was raised to Rs 11 cr. Dhruv Jurel, a fellow wicket-keeper batsman, had the biggest pay increase in the IPL overall after being retained by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 14 crore, a 6,900% increase from his prior wage of Rs 20 lakh. Jitesh received the most raise during the auction process.

Several records were set at the IPL 2025 mega auction, first from Mitchell Starc to Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 cr) and then, within 30 minutes, from Iyer to Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 cr).In the 2025 IPL, Jitesh will be a member of the dynamic, potent RCB batting order. In addition to Rajat Patidar and Liam Livingstone, RCB is anticipated to open with Virat Kohli and recent addition Phil Salt.
