Anshuman Gaekwad, who played 40 Tests and 15 One-Day Internationals for India between 1975 and 1987 before becoming the country’s head coach twice, is currently getting treatment for blood cancer.

The former teammate of India’s captain, Kapil Dev, who won the World Cup, has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide financial assistance to Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling blood cancer. Gaekwad, 71, has been receiving medical care at London’s King’s College Hospital for the past year. According to Kapil, a number of his former teammates, including Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, and Kirti Azad, are working hard to raise money for Gaikwad’s medical care.

Kapil expressed his confidence that the BCCI will investigate the situation and give former India head coach Gaekwad financial support.

It’s melancholy and quite dismal. I am hurting because I toyed with Anshu and I can’t stand to watch him like way. Nobody ought to endure pain. I’m confident the Board will look after him. Nobody is being forced to do anything. You will only be able to assist Anshu if you truly want to.

When he faced some of the fiercest fast bowlers, he absorbed hits to his face and chest. The time has come for us to defend him. Our cricket supporters won’t let him down, I’m sure. Kapil Dev told Sportstar, “They ought to pray for his recuperation.

The renowned all-rounder lamented, meanwhile, that there was no mechanism in place to help former players in situations similar to Anshuman’s. If things don’t get better, Kapil further stated that he is prepared to forfeit his pension.

“We’re sorry, but we lack a system. It’s wonderful to see players from this generation earning respectable wages. It’s encouraging to see that support employees receive competitive pay as well. The Board lacked the funds during our tenure. It has taken care of the older players from the past and continues to do so. However, where do they mail their donations? They can place their money there if a trust is established. However, we lack a system. A trust ought to exist. I believe BCCI is capable of that. They do take care of the players, both current and former. If the family agrees, we are prepared to donate our pension amount,” he continued.
