The finals of IPL 2023 are also expected to deliver record numbers, with the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings playing against the defending champion Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
The previous high for a season was in 2019, when Disney-Star recorded 478 million viewers. Star Sports has also registered a record-high concurrent viewership of 56 million on TV for the first time. In fact, 40 of the first 66 games had over 30 million concurrent viewers.
Sanjog Gupta, Disney-Star’s head of sports, said that “IPL 2023 has shattered all previous viewership records on TV. Even in terms of consumption, we’re seeing record numbers with more than 350 billion minutes of watch time. We have also seen 40 of the first 66 matches each register peak concurrent of more than 30 million, with a high of 56 million. This has made IPL 2023 a historic IPL on television across facets of reach, viewing time, and frequency.”
