Instead of making further Test appearances to go with his current total of four, Ahmed stated that his top priority was to bowl well for Leicestershire in the first-class County Championship, which begins next week.Teenage leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who had a promising return during the last tour of India, is continuing his nascent England career and has no intention of adding more pressure to make a home Test debut.

After taking five wickets in his first match against Pakistan in Karachi in 2022, the now 19-year-old bowler from Leicestershire became the youngest men’s Test cricket player in England’s history.

Ahmed, however, had to wait another fourteen months for his next Test series, since England rarely selects more than one specialist spinner in home conditions.

With 11 wickets in three Test matches amid a 4-1 series loss, he replied in a promising manner against a formidable India batting lineup.

Before England plays its home Test series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka, the United States and the Caribbean are hosting the T20 World Cup.

But instead of adding to his record of four Test appearances, Ahmed stated on Friday that his top objective was to bowl well for Leicestershire in the first-class County Championship, which begins next week.

When questioned about the possibility of making his England debut in the upcoming season, Ahmed responded, “I’m not really fussed about what I’m trying to achieve this year.”

“I’ve made every effort to fully commit to myself. Hence, I’ll try to get as many runs as I can and finish my overs because I enjoy batting and I’ve underperformed. My goal is to improve my batting.

I’m going to start playing county cricket right now. When I’m not representing England, Leicester comes first. I’ve had two weeks off, so I simply want to play again, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play because I needed a vacation.

Along with fellow inexperienced Test bowlers Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir, Ahmed was part of a potent spin assault in India. However, there are questions about how many overs the trio can manage in the early part of an English season, when the odds are usually in favor of seamers.

“I’ve been a little lacking in bowling in matches,” Ahmed said. “I’ve bowled a lot of white ball; I haven’t bowled a ton of red ball overs, and since it’s April, I’ll be cutting corners.”

I’ll be bowling a lot in training, but I don’t anticipate to bowl a lot of overs since the team comes first if the seamers are getting wickets.
